Productive skills

Most of my students find it really difficult to develop their productive skills: speaking and writing.

Using the Internet, you can get a lot of exposure! You can watch movies, read and listen to articles online, to the news, and so on. You can find books, read magazines, blogs... however, when it comes to productive skills, it's a different story.

It seems hard to get the chance to get real and meaningful communication going on... isn't it so?

Can you find any resources to develop speaking and writing?

1- Write your ideas here including links.
2- Try some of your classmates' ideas and comment on them.

  4. As we all know speaking and writing are one of the most complicated skills to develop in schools so to explain them we need to be very creative to apply this content.

    here we have some links
    Speaking
    http://www.voxopop.com/.
    - Voxopop is a site which is similar to Voicethread but doesn't have pictures. Students and teachers can start a discussion with a question. Others can reply with their voice. Teachers can listen to the student's replies and assess their speaking using a general rubric. It’s a very good page if you want to have a class discussion one day with your students.

VoiceThread bridges the gap between real-time discussions and standard video lectures or online presentations. This makes VoiceThread the platform for teaching, learning, training, and collaborating, on-demand.

  7. Can you find any resources to develop speaking and writing?

We think you can find any resources in the internet to develop any skill, for example in this page:
    1.- http://livemocha.com/
You will learn to speak or write with native people of some country, I think this page is very interesting and entertaining to learn or maybe for teach.

To improve writing skills we can use the web page www.grammarly.com which consists in an instant grammar checker.
Also, we can use the social networks like Facebook, Twitter or Messenger to practices our communicative skills through conversations.

  8. For teachers is very essential to teach speaking skills to develop competences on students who want to communicate in a effective way. Students have to practice every day with the guidance of the teacher, who monitors the process and, also the students need to practice by themselves. They have to speak as much as possible.
There are some activities that teachers can apply to their students when teaching speaking such us Role play activities, teaching songs, follow and giving instructions games like “Simon says” and so on.
Here we found two interesting links where students can be exposed to English language by listening and videos with their scripts.

  10. reading skills:
Read as much as you can. But your reading must be active. It means that you must think about the structure, unfamiliar words etc as you read. There is no need that you stick to some complicated grammar structures or try to understand all the unfamiliar words you come across, but the fact that you see them for the first time and recognize them whenever you see them for example in other passages or books is enough. It would be better to prepare yourself a notebook so you can write down the important words or structures in it. To begin reading, I recommend the Penguin Readers books. They are classified by level of difficulty.

As for listening, there are two options:

Aside from reading, you can listen every day for about 30 minutes.
You can only concentrate on your reading and become skillful at your reading, then you can catch up on your listening.
